TOMTAS

Turkish Aircraft, Automobile and Engine Ltd./
Tayyare Otomobil ve Motor Türk Anonim Sirketi (TOMTAS):

The TOMTAS company was founded on 15.08.1925. The shareholders were made up of the Junkers Flugzeugwerke A.G and the forerunner of the Turkish Aeronautical Association THK, the Türk Tayyare Cemiyeti (TTaC). According to contract, the company was to take over the production and maintenance of all aircraft in the Turkish Air Force. Therefore an aircraft factory was built at Kayseri and a plant for smaller maintenance functions was constructed at Eskisehir. At the same time the company was supposed to organize a national Turkish airline and execute also oil drillings in Turkey. Shortly after the beginning of the production, the German and Turkish shareholder came to a disagreement. Finally TOMTAS had to be closed on 28.05.1928. None of the planned Junkers A-20 and F-13 a/c could be built.
